About United for Democracy Now
United for Democracy Now is a non-partisan clearing house of organizations that believe in social and economic justice for all, getting big money out of politics, fair elections and a healthy planet.
WHO WE ARE:
We are a group of concerned citizens and lifetime activists who feel that unless we unite at some level and put our egos aside, we won’t have a country left.We are doing this for the sake of ourselves, our children and grandchildren.
We are doing this for the sake of ourselves, our children and grandchildren.
This is a non-profit, non-partisan effort to take back our country. We are asking no money from you other than helping us build power as a unifying force against the money, greed, and ideology taking control of this country.

WHY WE STARTED THIS UMBRELLA GROUP:
After the November 8th presidential election, several things became very clear: Extreme right-wing and neo-liberal groups were determined to dismantle our government. That became particularly apparent when extremists were appointed to lead cabinet positions who either had no knowledge about the cabinet they were appointed to lead or were determined to understaff it, deregulate it, and/or destroy it. Extreme right-wing and neo-liberal groups were determined to dismantle our government. That became particularly apparent when extremists were appointed to lead cabinet positions who either had no knowledge about the cabinet they were appointed to lead or were determined to understaff it, deregulate it, and/or destroy it.
Groups like ALEC and its members and financial supporters were gerrymandering the states, involved in voter suppression, and working towards the goal of having enough states and congressmen supporting their efforts to rewrite our Constitution in their image, an image of deregulation, no taxes on the very rich, and a dismantling of all social programs. In fact, they are only a few states and congressmen/women away from achieving their objective.
The White House itself became a place where protocol and laws were ignored, threats were made to the media, staff that allegedly has/had ties to foreign governments and dictatorships rather than to our democratic government were running roughshod over the highest office in the land. Hate and paranoia now represent what too many in our country have come to believe in and we are watching the dismantling of our way of life.
The corporate media seems to be again answering to their sponsors and ratings rather than an independent source of information for the public.
So, we’ve put together a database of over 500 organizations that have very clear mission statements about their concern for the rights of people and planet over massive profits.
WHAT WE WANT TO DO:
We felt that we needed a central place/site to come together where we can share ideas, share events, locally and nationally, and build strength by power in numbers
We are not asking any group to change what they’re doing. In fact, we strongly believe that our diversity is our strength. We just need to unify at some level, particularly if we need immediate calls to action and to spread important information quickly through our network.
We also know that there are many coalition already in existence, but we take what those coalitions are doing and post there events as well and inform the public as to their actions as coalitions.
We have a Facebook Page called United for Democracy Now Actions and Events where we post actions locally and from around the nation. We feel we can learn from other people’s ideas even if we can’t always attend their events and actions.
We have a Facebook Page called United for Democracy Now Discussion group where we have serious discussions about what’s going on here, in the states, and around the world. We try to keep it at a high level of discussion rather than inane comments that just end in useless bickering.
We have events around the State of Illinois in which three speakers from different organizations speak for twenty minutes each about what they’re working on and how people can get involved. Each group presents a different topic. This is followed by Q and A. We encourage other groups to bring their flyers and other hand-outs. The events have been very successful. This format can be done anywhere.
We now have started a website so people can go to your site by clicking on links based on the name of the organization, location(s), and subject matter. That just involves you filling out the form as a member. All you need to do is fill in the link below, become a member, and then post what you’re doing on the website. We don’t want your membership list. We just want the public to see what’s happening around the country and what they can get involved with. We will soon have a blog on our website as well.
One of our goals is to help you grow your membership and educate the public as to what is really happening rather than “alternative” facts
We have a list of reliable media sources and a list of excellent documentaries, which is another important way to learn what’s really happening.
IF YOU AGREE WITH OUR GOALS, please register on this site and create a directory listing for your organization. After you have created a listing for your organization, you can create event that your organization is sponsoring.
We will do our best to make the public even more aware of what issues you’re working on and how they can get involved. We may also ask that you speak at one of our events or simply bring material to make available to pass out to our audience, but there is no obligation to do so.
If you have any questions, please contact us.
